February 24, 2012 • Get Crackin'

Happy World Pistachio Day, folks! We hope fans around the globe are celebrating the rich history and rising popularity of our favorite nut, the pistachio. In honor of the occasion, we’re taking a look back at the pistachio’s past in various countries around the world. Won’t you join us?

USA

Pistachios made their debut in the U.S. during the 1930s where it took nearly 10 years to perfect what is now known as the Kerman variety. California is the leading producer of pistachios worldwide and our orchards can be found throughout the San Joaquin Valley.

MEXICO

A popular saying in Mexico is, “Quiere el pistache pelado y en la boca,” which means “He wants his pistachios shelled and in the mouth.” Translation: wanting everything the easy way (hey, some people prefer them shelled).
