Wonderful Pistachios sponsored boxer Jose Ramirez is currently en route to London where he will be competing on the 2012 USA Olympic team. We couldn’t be more elated, and he had a few minutes to chat with us about his journey to the top!

Q: How does it feel to make it to the Olympics?

It’s an honor and dream come true.

Q: How old were you when you had dreams of going into the Olympics?

Thirteen.

Q: What does your daily workout and training consist of?

I run five miles, do strength and condition work, then boxing work out and sparring a few times each week.

Q: What boxes did you admire growing up?

Oscar de La Hoya.

Q: How did you get into boxing?

At eight years old, my father took me there because I had too much energy and he wanted to tire me out.

Q: Who in boxing has given you the most valuable advice? What was it?

Armando Mancias, my coach. He said, “You get out of this sport what you put in it.”

Q: You have been on an unbelievable journey to earn your spot on the US Olympic team. How did you keep yourself motivated?

Simple…my family. To help them and give us a better life.
